Education in Schools

We are currently developing new resources for schools to use. These will be available soon!

LGBTQ+ Inclusive Education

We believe that visibility is key to stopping stigma and shame. Seeing yourself reflected in society is hugely affirming and empowering. When Liberate, LGBTQ+ teachers and students are visible in schools, it sends a powerful message to all LGBTQ+ students that they can be proud of who they are.

LBTQ+ lessons cover simple facts in an age-appropriate manner, such as ‘some families have two mums or two dads, what the letters LGBTQ+ stand for, and how using the phrase’ that’s so gay’ is homophobic and can cause bullying. We also deliver assemblies on a variety of topics – any school can get in touch and request these, they are perfect for LGBTQ+ History Month or to celebrate Pride.

Over the years we have given over 5,000 students (and many teachers) a greater understanding of some of the issues that young LGBTQ+ people face. This way, they know what it means to be LGBTQ+ and can better support anyone who might come out.

Did you know that around 18% of young people* in Guernsey identify as LGBTQ+?

Many of these young people will experience bullying for being LGBTQ+ or will hear negative remarks about LGBTQ+ identities.

There has yet to be a generation of young LGBTQ+ people to go through the school system without being bullied for being LGBTQ+.

We’d like to change that!

Get in touch to find out more about the lessons or assemblies we deliver or to book email hello@liberate.gg or info@youthcommission.gg

Our LGBTQ+ youth initiatives are kindly supported by TMF Group and the Youth Commission of Guernsey and Alderney.
