We exist to promote fairness and equality

Liberate is a Guernsey-registered charity established in 2014 to promote fairness and equality. Liberate also provides support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ+) community, together with their friends and families within the Bailiwick of Guernsey (Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm).

We want to stand as positive role models and provide a voice for the Bailiwick’s LGBTQ+ community.

We campaign for positive change in laws and opinions with the aim to promote acceptance of everyone identifying as LGBTQ+. We aim to do this with the input and support of the LGBTQ+ community.

We want to stand as positive role models and provide a voice for the Bailiwick’s LGBTQ+ community.

We wish to put in place support services for LGBTQ+ people growing up and growing old within the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

We wish to create an island community where everyone stands in equal footing with their neighbour regardless of their ability, age, beliefs, gender identity, race, religion, sex or sexuality.

There is a separate but affiliated branch of Liberate in Jersey who have a wider ‘equality’ remit not only supporting the LGBTQ+ community but all minority groups.

As part of our affiliation we work together to host ChannelIslandsPride.org with the event switching between Guernsey and Jersey most years.

Liberate is governed by a board of Trustees, and run day-to-day by the Chief Operating Officer (CEO). We have an Hon. Treasurer and a Secretary.

We are made up of individuals from a variety of gender identities, sexual orientation, ages, beliefs, ethnicities and abilities.

By having such a diverse group of people involved we can operate on many levels as we all bring something different to the group.

We currently have one full time member of staff (our CEO) and a part time marketing, media and admin person, the rest of our team contribute on a voluntary basis.

Liberate is a Guernsey registered charity, founded on 15th February 2014. Liberate is a Guernsey Registered Charity no. CH478 and we are also No.399 with the Association of Guernsey Charities.

We’d like to thank all of our supporters and people who attend our events, the funds raised go towards the general running costs of Liberate.

We would not be able to any of the work we do without the support of some of the grant giving organisations in Guernsey. We’d like to thank Lloyds Bank Foundation CI, the Social Investment Fund and the Guernsey Community Foundation for their ongoing support.
