The campaign by the Coalition for Marriage (C4M) to stop equal marriage from becoming a reality in Guernsey has backfired

Ellie Jones, from the Liberate committee, can be seen in an interview with ITV Channel News, explaining how the recent campaign has backfired.
The UK based group, C4M, has been handing out leaflets in St Peter Port, and recently took out an advertisement in the Guernsey Press, declaring that approving equal marriage would ‘redefine’ marriage and make it ‘genderless’. They also make claims that children need a mother and a father and that ‘most people’ disagree with same sex marriage, when research actually shows the opposite is true.
However, there has been an outpouring of support for Liberate and for same sex marriage as a result of this campaign. And suggestions by the C4M pressure group that people should email their deputies have actually been taken up, but by people voicing their support for same sex marriage rather than their opposition.
The States of Guernsey is due to debate the issue on 8th December. If you wish to support same sex marriage, you can let our Deputies know by emailing them at Deputies2012All@gov.gg.
