This weekend would have seen Liberate celebrating their 7th birthday with their ‘Love is Love Soirée’. The current lockdown restrictions have meant that it has been postponed until the 19th of March. However, the Channel Islands LGBTQ+ charity has never been one to let anything stand in the way of getting their message out there, and they are inviting the community to ‘Speak, Play, Sing, Slay’ via an online open mic night to celebrate their birthday, as well as LGBT history month.
Liberate CEO Ellie Jones told us ‘I don’t know about you but most of our team try and eek their birthday celebration out for at least a week, so we thought we would do the same with Liberates birthday celebrations. We have a huge variety of online activities going on as well as the open mic night. We have a quiz, art group, movie nights, fitness classes, drag queen story hour, social chats and support groups. And everything is free for the whole community to join in with’.
They want to hear from all singers, performers, poets and drag queens across the Channel Islands. The event will be streamed live on the Liberate.CI Facebook page from 8pm on Saturday night. If you’d like to showcase your talents get in touch by emailing hello@liberate.gg. If you are a little worried about performing live you can even submit a pre-recorded video instead.
Camille Brouard, who will be the host for the evening added ‘As it’s also LGBT History Month we are asking performers to try and incorporate an LGBTQ+ theme – but this is not essential especially if you are LGBTQ+, that counts enough for us!’
If you’d like to watch or take park in any of the online events you can find all the details of how to do that on their website www.liberate.gg/upcoming-events/
