Liberate’s monthly book club ‘Lit with Liberate’ is moving online with an exclusive daily live reading by an international author who was due to talk at the Guernsey Literary Festival this year.
Ellie Jones, CEO of Liberate told us ‘We are very excited to be able to bring our book club to a wider audience during a time when people will be feeling more isolated than ever. This month’s book club title is The Lie by William Dameron.’
William has kindly agreed to join us daily via Facebook Live to read his book. William tells us his story, one that for many will ring very true. Many people have lived through a time when being gay was socially unacceptable, criminalised even. His heartfelt story will throw a light on the unseen turmoil that people go through while living a lie and ultimately telling their truth.’
As an introduction Mr Dameron will be launching this event on the Liberate Facebook page on Friday 27th March at 6pm. He told us ‘I was heartbroken when the Guernsey Literary Festival was cancelled, but I’m thrilled to connect with Liberate and to share my story through Facebook Live with them.’
Lit with Liberate and William Dameron starts on Monday 30th of March. It will be on Facebook Live Monday – Thursday at 8pm. You can read along by downloading a copy or ordering one online, or just sit back and relax and listen to his journey. You’ll also be welcome to join a live discussion with the author on Thursday 9th of April at 7pm. The book group is usually held at the Guille-Allès Library but will be hosted online until the library reopens.
We are moving all of our support, social groups and clubs to online platforms over the next few weeks. We encourage you to visit our Facebook page for more details or email hello@liberate.gg if you would like to get involved in anything. Our aim in doing this is to create more spaces where people can connect with each other to feel less isolated over the coming weeks and months.
