There are only 6 days left until the first Channel Islands Pride: Jersey 2015! This will be a hugely meaningful day not just for the LGBTQ community in Jersey, but for all Channel Islanders who want to celebrate Jersey & Guernsey for the diverse, welcoming and inclusive places they are to live.
If you want to be part of this celebration, then meet at 12:45pm this coming Saturday (12th September 2015) dressed in your most colourful finery at Wests Centre, St Helier! Bring banners, posters, flags, whistles, feather boas (all available from the wonderful team at Magic Touch) and join in with the Parade to Weighbridge Square.
There will be a whole host of family entertainment in Weighbridge Square from 2pm until 8pm, including performances from Dead Red, LGBTQ activist, actress and musician Heather Peace, and the stellar Paula Randell as Dame Shirley Bassey!
At 5.30pm, at Jersey Museum, we have the Jersey premier of 52 Tuesdays, a wonderful and touching film about a family’s journey when a mother announces her plan to gender transition.
From 8pm, you can take your pick of entertainment for the evening. Ce Soir are playing host to the irrepressible boys from Bother with the Official Haus of Liberate Pride Afterparty ‘Shameless’ (Tickets £5 on Eventbrite or on the door). The Royal Yacht will be holding a colourful Studio 54 inspired evening with equally sparkly Pride Cocktails. Or why not head to the Troubadour where from 3pm to 1am Rat City Promotions will be running a free all-day live music event in aid of Pride?
A host of volunteers have made this event possible. None of them have done this for any monetary gain; they have all given freely of their time, their money and their skills.
So, if you see one of these truly wonderful people running around on Saturday (I’m pretty sure you will – they’ll be wearing the stylish black Pride Crew-paud T-Shirts) then give them a huge hug, they deserve it! They have so much to be proud of, as do we all!
Thank you, and see you on Saturday!
