Ireland has voted in its first ever openly gay Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar.

He is set to become the next taoiseach for the Republic of Ireland after winning the leadership of the Fine Gael party.
The election was held after the incumbent, Enda Kenny, announced his resignation.
The 38 year old took 60% of the vote in the recent election, beating Housing Minister Simon Coveney.
After the results were announced, Varadkar stated “If my election shows anything it’s that prejudice has no hold in this Republic”.
Varadkar will take office when parliament next sits on 13th June.
