The International AIDS Alliance charity has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the number of holiday destinations that criminalise people on the grounds of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The campaign – ‘Paradise or Persecution‘ – asks people to sign a petition.
The charity will present the petition to Commonwealth leaders when they meet in Malta later this month (27 to 29 November). Of the 54 Commonwealth countries, 41 currently criminalise LGBT people and 60% of all people living with HIV live in Commonwealth countries.
A YouGov survey for the international AIDS Alliance also found that British tourists care far more about night life and beaches, when going on holiday to a foreign country, than laws persecuting LGBT people.
